Shokozan-Tokeiji Temple Project (1997 – )

“Golden light descends

Dappled through autumn leaves

Nature’s soft embrace”

For over twenty-eight years I have visited Shokozn-Tokeiji Temple in Kita-Kamakura,

attempting to understand Kitaro Nishida’s statement “The absolute affirms itself through

its own negation” through the medium of photography.

Nishida has his grave here, as does Daitetz Teitaro Suzuki, the seer of Zen to the West.

Yasujiro Ozu is buried nearby.

Patrick has been invited to present a talk on his 1986 China photos by SOAS in London on 13 October
